Legacy
The Congregation of the Sisters of the Cross founded by Claudine Echernier in 1838 is engaged in various ministries. In India, In the Pune Province, the Sisters of the Cross are responsible for 6 educational institutions in which young people irrespective of caste or class are being educated through the medium of English and Marathi.
Holy Cross Convent High School, Kolhapur, is an English Medium School for girls, founded on 26 October 1963 at the continued request of the people of Kolhapur. We owe our deep gratitude to late Rev. Father Miranda. S. J., who has been instrumental in making our arrival and establishment on this fruitful soil possible. The empowerment of the girl child was the need of the hour. In 1965, the middle school was opened. The 8 class was open opened in 1966 and after a chequered history of opening, closing and re-opening of the secondary section, the first batch of SSC students appeared in 1984. It prepares its students for the SSC Examination, a 10 years course, conducted by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary Education, Kolhapur.
The year 2012-13 completes 50 years in the field of education. In this span of 50 years we have experienced God’s blessings and so we gratefully Return, Revitalize and Rejoice, fulfilling the mission of the holistic formation of the girl child, thus forming a humane society.
